Missed Connections: A Tale of Timing and Missed Opportunities

Life, they say, is all about timing. And lately, it seems like I've been dancing to the wrong rhythm (and I loveeee to dance to my own beat)

Back in August, I had the exciting opportunity to interview for a role with a #commercial real estate company in #Dallas. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances God saying (“not yet Sabrina”), I had to withdraw from the process -being professional. Despite this, I remained incredibly interested in the company through my research; I kept in touch with the recruiter, enthusiastic to learn about future openings.

Then… in mid-December, an email arrived from the recruiter. An interview request with the General Manager for the Assistant Real Estate Manager opportunity in Dallas was requested! My heart leaped! This was the opportunity I had been waiting for.

But... I missed it.

Lost in the sea of emails / SPAM, the message slipped through the cracks. I discovered it over a week later, a wave of disappointment washed over me guys. The role had already been filled I learned.

I was incredibly bummed. This was the second time a promising opportunity with this company had slipped through my fingers. It feels like a cruel twist of fate. :-/

But I'm not giving up. I'm determined to learn from this experience. This setback, while disheartening, highlights the importance of persistence and proactive email management.

To stay organized, I created a dedicated email account solely for my job search. This was a crucial step, this will help me centralize all my job-related communications and minimize missing important emails.

This experience underscores the importance of building and maintaining professional relationships. I will continue to network diligently, attend industry events; when opportune, and stay in touch with recruiters and other professionals in the field.

This setback, while disheartening, will not deter me. I will continue to polish my skills network diligently, and patiently await the right opportunity — I believe in God’s timing.

I'm confident that my dedication and perseverance will eventually lead me to the right path.

Integrate / balance your work schedule

What do you do if you want to balance your work schedule while freelancing in real estate?

Real estate is a lifestyle, not a side hustle. You need to integrate it into your daily routine, which requires discipline and structured time management. Prioritization is key. Tools like Google Calendar and Toggl Tracker can help you stay disciplined. As a W2 employee, your primary responsibility is to your current job. However, remember that a W2 only pays you for your time. Do your best for them within those hours, but also understand that your real estate business is what can secure your financial future. If real estate is important to you (and it should be!), treat it like the business that fuels your long-term goals. LinkedIn
